For the last 15 years LUCY IN THE SKY from Germany has been one of the most popular and successful Beatles Tribute Bands in Europe and abroad. Performing the songs in their own, unmistakably lively and vivid style, rather than sticking too close to the original sound, the four musicians don´t see themselves as a revival-band at all. Quotations like this, written again and again in concert reviews in several newspapers, prove that this is working just fine: If the Beatles played today, they would sound like LUCY IN THE SKY. Of course they present the two songs the Fab Four sang in German, too: "I Want To Hold Yor Hand” as "Komm, gib mir deine Hand” and "She Loves You” as "Sie liebt Dich”...

Coming from Alta in Norway. We probably are the northernmost Beatles tribute band in the world. It started out when we were just kids. Listening to cassettes and collecting every piece of picture or magazine article we could find about the Beatles. We formed our first band at the age of 11. And even before we had guitars we used to sing Beatles songs to the beat of a snare drum, which we had borrowed from our local school orchestra. Now, about thirty years later we are still in love with that music. And being able to perform these songs, giving concerts is the greatest gift of all.

PAUL McCARTNEY REALLY IS DEAD
The Last Testament of George Harrison
Director Joel Gilbert to present film & Q&A

In the summer of 2005, a package arrived at the Hollywood offices of Highway 61 Entertainment from London with no return address.  Inside were two mini-cassette audio tapes dated December 30, 1999 and labeled “The Last Testament of George Harrison”.  A voice eerily similar to Harrison’s tells a shocking story:  Paul McCartney was killed in a car crash in November of 1966 and replaced with a double!  British intelligence, MI5, had forced the Beatles to cover up McCartney’s death to prevent mass suicides of Beatle fans. However, the remaining Beatles tried to signal fans with clues on album covers and in songs.

Until now, the “Paul is Dead” mystery that exploded worldwide in 1969 was considered a hoax.  However, in this film,
the mysterious voice on the tapes reveals a secret Beatles history, chronicling McCartney’s fatal accident, the cover up, dozens of unknown clues, and a dangerous cat and mouse game with “Maxwell,” the Beatles’ MI5 handler, as John Lennon became increasingly reckless with the secret.  The voice also claims that Lennon was assassinated in 1980 after he threatened to finally expose “Paul McCartney” as an imposter!

Highway 61 Entertainment has investigated this stunning new account of the conspiracy to hide McCartney’s tragic death and produced this
unauthorized documentary that includes newly unearthed evidence.  The mysterious voice on the audio tapes narrates the entire film in what may prove to be the most important document in rock and roll history, leaving little doubt that PAUL MCCARTNEY REALLY IS DEAD!

David Bedford was born in 1965 and grew up in The Dingle, Liverpool, by the bottom of Madryn Street where Ringo Starr was born.  When illness forced retirement upon Bedford, he was advised by a doctor to find an interest to occupy his time.  Bedford began a quest to discover as much as he could about the history of the Beatles in Liverpool.  Almost a decade later, the result is Liddypool: Birthplace of The Beatles, a gorgeous coffee-table book published by Dalton Watson Fine Books and includes a foreword by drummer Pete Best.

“To understand The Beatles, you have to understand Liverpool,” Bedford writes.

“Liddypool” was published in 2009, and has been described by Bill Heckle, organiser of Liverpool Beatleweek, as “the best Beatles book I’ve seen for 20 years”, and has received the backing of Pete Best, Allan Williams, Bill Harry, Hunter Davies, the Quarrymen and many more.

What is ingenious about Yellow Dubmarine’s interpretation of the Beatles’ song book is that the era of Beatles’ music performed has correlated to a distinct era in the development of Jamaica’s treasured music. This has happened perhaps unintentionally, but has happened none the less. Often the earlier Beatles songs evoke an earlier form of reggae, sounding more like ska or rocksteady than dub; while later songs have seemed to require the more developed and sonically rich nuances of both roots reggae and later dub styles. In this sense, Yellow Dubmarine has taken a novel concept and proceeded with extreme reverence for both the Beatles’ music and the reggae artists they have been influenced by. Their music is the more humble and clever for it.

A Hard Day's Night is a 1964 British black and white comedy film written by Alun Owen starring The BeatlesJohn LennonPaul McCartneyGeorge Harrison and Ringo Starr—during the height of Beatlemania. It was directed byRichard Lester and originally released by United Artists. The film was made in the style of a mock documentary, describing a couple of days in the lives of the group.

On arrival in London, The Beatles are driven to a hotel where they feel trapped. After a night out during which Paul's grandfather causes minor trouble at a casino, the group are taken to the theatre where their performance is to be filmed. The preparations are lengthy so Ringo decides to spend some time alone reading a book. Paul's grandfather, a "villain, a real mixer," convinces him that he should be outside experiencing life instead of reading books, so Ringo goes off by himself. He tries to have a quiet drink in a pub, walks alongside a canal and at one point rides a bicycle along a railway station platform.[5] Meanwhile, the rest of the band frantically (and unsuccessfully) attempts to find Ringo. Finally, however, he returns, after being arrested by the police along with Paul's grandfather, and the concert goes ahead as planned.[3]

Pete Best

Come meet former drummer Pete Best and don't forget an autograph!

During 1960 the Silver Beatles played without a permanent drummer. Finally, when their manager Allan Williams secured a tour of Hamburg, it was decided that the drummer situation had to be solved. The solution was Pete Best. The band knew Pete from a club they had often played and now frequented, The Casbah - where Pete's own group (The Blackjacks) were resident.

Paul McCartney phoned Pete in August 1960 asking him if he was interested in joining the band. Pete discussed the situation with his fellow Blackjacks who happily agreed that Pete should take up his place with The Beatles. Pete formally auditioned, became a Beatle on 12th August 1960 and left for Germany with John, Paul, George and Stuart.

Andrea Kalin, featuring Pete Seeger, Moses Asch

Folkways Records founder Moses Asch turned the music business model on its head. He avoided hit makers and catered to unknown musicians. He dug into vanishing traditions around the world to harness music and sounds that inspire people. Artists like Woody Guthrie and Lead Belly can still be heard on this original indie label with the mission of gathering sound and spreading it to the people.

Worlds of Sound explores the powerful chords of this musical inheritance. With longtime Folkways producer Richard Carlin and others, the film takes viewers through the Folkways story, from the passion of founder Moses Asch to the New York Jazz scene in the 1940s, to the 60s counter-culture and its folk heroes. The film introduces us afresh to Woody Guthrie, Pete Seeger and others at the front of the Blues and Folk revivals: names like Lead Belly, Sonny Terry, Brownie McGee, and Lightnin' Hopkins. Folkways recorded everything: the clatter of city street noises, the murmuring of frogs, and the music of distant lands unknown to most Americans — and way off Top 40.

For this sweeping story, we'll venture inside Smithsonian Folkways and meet the people who continue to discover and collect music from around the world. "Our songs are singing history," Woody Guthrie declared. This documentary will reveal how true this is through the songs of Folkways artists."

The band specializes in complete, start-to-finish album performances of masterpieces such as "Abbey Road", "Magical Mystery Tour" and "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Heart's Club Band".
